Ashes of Hope
I am a Finnish cellist, songwriter, producer, arranger, and, as a hobby sometimes a drummer. I grew up in Vantaa's Hakunila, as the second eldest of 5 siblings. I began to play the cello at the age of 9, and decided to start playing drums at the same time. Eicca, my nick name, was chosen by me when I was younger to avoid confusion with my sister's name, Aino Toppinen. I then attended Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where I met Paavo Lötjönen, Antero Manninen and Max Lilja. When I was at the Sibelius I couldn't get an apartment or student support money because I lived too close to Helsinki; where the Academy resides. It was..upsetting and I was trying to get away from my parents' house but it...didn't work. I had to be 21 years old, and I couldn't even afford living by himself, y'know. So after i graduated, I played for several orchestras, like "Radio Symphony Orchestra" or "Avanti". I am also the founding member of the Sibelius Academy's Cellosextet. Um, around the early ninties, I had completely changed my mind about this college life. We started playing Metallica for the Vivo Christian Orchestra which were from their album, Ride the Lightning. Two years later, Apocalyptica performed at Helsinki's Teatro Heavy Metal Club. A week later, Kari Hynninen contacted me for the deal to make our first record: Plays Metallica By Four Cellos. I have to say that my biggest achievement in life is Apocalyptica.
The Underground
It came, all of a sudden, and it was unstoppable. The nightmares, the visions, the memories. Nothing was right after the virus took hold of the world and didn't let go till it breathed it's last breath. Continuing on, somehow, I survived. It's hard to remember much. What happened, how I was seperated from friends and family. Especially my bandmates. Then the news of some secret underground organization in Europe spread like wild fire among the survivors. However this place was, in fact, impossible to find. But having found it, somehow, somewhere here. I can't believe what's really happened has happened. I live there now, with many different and alike. It is difficult for me to live, at times, without anyone from the world before the genetic holocaust. And now I live with these horrible conditions. This curse on my body. It means that nothing will ever be the same again. Currently now I am trying to live. Just live.
